IGMH

Internal Medicine Department of Internal Medicine is the most heavily manned department of IGMH; comprising 10 local specialists and one foreigner. Even though the developments of subspecialty clinical departments came only in the past few years, Department of Internal Medicine has single handedly provided services in all the conditions related to Cardiology, Respiratory Medicine and Nephrology.

Scope of Services

Consultation, diagnosis, treatment, counseling, prevention, and rehabilitation to a variety of non-surgical conditions. Diabetes, hypertension, respiratory, non-interventional cardiac and infectious diseases are few among the vast medical conditions treated by the physicians.
Out-patient clinics for internal medicine appointments; Walk-in OPD for patients referred to Internal Medicine from another department; Provide out-patient support to National Diabetes Center
In-patient services; Provide in-patient services to patients admitted in Internal Medicine; ICU, attend emergency department and admit cases from ER who needs admission in Internal Medicine
Attend to calls from other islands and institutions of the country by the on-call physician; Carry out procedures needed for evaluation and management of patients admitted in Internal Medicine (Paracentesis, Lumbar Puncture, Thoracentesis, Central Venous Line insertion, Arterial line insertion, Intubation, and mechanical ventilation)
Education and Training; Carry out clinical teaching for Maldives National University Medical School students; Conduct classes and training for interns posted in department; Conduct exams for medical students and interns
Dietetics and Nutrition; Supervise and train junior dietitians and dietetic interns;
NATIONAL DIABETES CENTRE; Walk-in OPD for patients referred to NDC from another department; Conduct out-patient clinics for National Diabetes Center
