Paediatrics in IGMHAs the human body ages and matures it undergoes many physiological changes. As such patient care and treatment should be handled differently for patients of different ages. Paediatrics is the field of medicine in which specialist care is given to infants and children.
In IGMH the department of paediatrics provides consultation and treatment for patients from birth till they reach the age of 16. Comprised of 7 doctors and their support staff this department caters to the needs of patients through OPD consultation, follow-ups in the paediatric (32 bed), Gynae and Private wards , or through intensive care in the NICU.
NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
This 20 bed unit is specifically designed to give state of the art treatment for infants who have developed complications within the first month of their life.
PNC (Postnatal care)
In collaboration with the department of obstretics and gynaecology, paediatric doctors provide check-ups to newborns in the RHC (Reproductive Health Clinic). In order to reduce the rates of child mortality this two-part consultation is carried out for all infants born in IGMH, free of any charge. The first consultation is within the 1st week of birth, and the second consultation is scheduled on the day that the baby become two weeks of age.
