Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH)

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) , which was a gift from the Government of India, represents one of the most significant donations so far from India to the Maldives.  The hospital, with its wide ranging departments and modern diagnostic facilities, manned by qualified and experienced clinical personnel, has been an important milestone in the development of health services in the Maldives.  It is our sincere hope that IGMH will remain a symbol of the long standing friendly relations between the Maldives and India.

On the 15th April, 1995, the official opening of the hospital was performed jointly by President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and the Prime Minister of India, His Excellency P.V. Narasimha Rao.  The building was officially handed over to the Government of the Republic of Maldives by the Indian Union Minister for Urban Develoment, Shrimathi Sheila Kaul, on 2 February 1994, and was received by the Minister of Health and Welfare of teh Republic of Maldives, Mr Ahmed Abdullah.

Since it was officially opened in 1995, the Maldivian government has continuously upgraded its facilities adding more services, including CT scanning facilities, haemodialyis services and expanded diagnostic capacity of its laboratory services.
